John Greenleaf Whittier was an American Quaker poet and advocate of the abolition of slavery in the United States. Frequently listed as one of the Fireside Poets, he was influenced by the Scottish poet Robert Burns.

Lays Of My Home, and Other Poems. vi, [4], 122 + 6 ad pp. (12mo), finely bound in later three quarter brown half morocco and brown cloth, gilt spine, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. With the decorative bookplate of Eugene M. Carter. First Edition. Boston: Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1849.
At Sundown. 46 pp. (12mo), original brown cloth, gilt lettering.
Tipped in between the front free endpaper and the blank is a facsimile of a Whittier autograph (“From John G. Whittier”), as issued by the publishers. Cambridge: Privately Printed at the Riverside Press, 1890.
Condition
Some rubbing to extremities; toning to interiors, some faint scattered foxing; both volumes near fine.
