Description
Very Interesting and rare old carved wooden mask that was apparently placed on top of a Pole or perhaps served as an architectural element and was thought to ward off witchcraft. The mask face has classic deep and heavy brow and archaic face accented with kaolin clay pigments. Kota peoples, Gabon, Africa. Of note, the kaolin clay pigment has areas that have eroded away, which is rather convincing of age and use after it was painted, also The bottom of the mask shows alot of wear. The mask measures 11.5 x 6 inches.
Condition
heavily eroded and worn, fair condition.
