First Printing of the First US Edition

"The Second Jungle Book", of Rudyard Kipling, first American Edition, first Printing, issued by the Century Company, 1895. Points of first US printing: distinctive orange cloth / later printing have green cloth; 1895 is imprinted on the bottom of the title page and copyright.

"The SECOND JUNGLE BOOK" is beautifully illustrated by John Lockwood Kipling, C.I.E. (Kipling's Father, artist and scholar who had considerable influence on his son's work). 'The child who has never run with Mowgli's wolf pack has missed something that he will not get from any other writer.

As in his first collection of tales (the Jungle Book), Mowgli, the boy reared amongst wolf-cubs in India features in many of the stories. The honors bestowed upon him all over the world were capped in 1907 when he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
