Description
**Originally Listed At $500**
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 100 to 400 CE. A sweet doll depicting a nude female who sits on an ample buttocks with upraised knees and painted hands across her abdominal area, perhaps intended to direct attention toward her womb. Note her breasts and genitalia are delineated as well. Finely painted with vivid polychrome decoration: russet red and black details contrasting with the creamy beige ground. Her expressive visage is comprised of almond-shaped eyes with red lashes/tears (possibly tattoo marks or scarification) below and hair that falls to her shoulders and extends in long, wavy locks down her back. Female figures are relatively rare in Nazca pottery, making this piece particularly unique. Comes with custom stand. Size: 4.125" H (10.5 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex Dr. R. Gill, DDS collection of Orlando, Florida, USA
