Description
Ca. 19th century bronze Khmer Temple Guardian or Lion figures (a pair), in the Angkor period, style of Banteay Srei 10th century. The “guardians of the gateâ€, are placed around the outside of a temple to serve both as greeters and defenders, they were specifically intended to protect the principle entrances of temples.
Each statue is carved in the round to show a strength body with an ornate coiffure with full lips and almond-shaped eyes with incised pupils beneath gently curving brows. Please contact us for high resolution images of the piece.
