Educated at Cambridge and Edinburgh University, G.F. Scott Elliot became a lecturer at the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College and ultimately a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He explored Africa in the late 1880s, presented findings to the Linnean Society, and was commissioned by the Franco-British Delineation Committee to define the boundaries of Sierra Leone.
