Attributed to Captain James Weir (18th Cent. British) Historical "Battle of The Nile" 1798 Watercolor on Paper 10.5"x19" Sheet. A rare historical painting of, 'The French line as they appear'd at an Anchor on the 1st of August 1798. in the Wn. branch of the Nile" as notated on verso. A battle scene from the perspective of Admiral nelson's squadron as it approached Napoleon's fleet in Abu Qir Bay on the first of August 1798. Some edge tears and scattered foxing spots from age. Loose, unframed. Provenance: Admiral Sir Frederick Dalrymple-Mailton (commander of the HMS Rodney at the sinking of Bismark) by descent; thence to current owner.
