Description
1673 William Prynne Book of Common Prayer England Protestant & Catholic Church
William Prynne was a 17th-century English lawyer, Puritan, and well-known opponent of the Church of England policies. His numerous pamphlets were extremely critical of the Church of England, Papist disloyalty, and the English Civil War.
Prynne sets out to discuss his views and opinions regarding the Book of Common Prayer and holy sacraments associated with liturgical practices. This work provides examples of expected uses of prayer books, both in public worship and private devotion, as well as focusing on the importance of providing instruction, as Prynne puts it, the ‘ignorant’.
