Description
1673 Famed Bible Commentary of Matthew Poole anti Catholic England Synopsis Criticorum
Matthew Poole was a 17th-century English nonconformist known for his anti-Catholic propaganda. While his Bible commentaries and annotations were his most popular works, he also wrote an examination of the Catholic Church, defining and describing many of the problems with their doctrine. Frequently, Poole sought to demonstrate the superiority of Protestantism of Catholicism, and this was most evident in his work ‘Synopsis Criticorum’ in which he summarizes the views of bible critics and commentators. Curiously though, Poole did not include reviews on John Calvin or Martin Luther – perhaps not looking to be critical of their views.
