Description
1791 PURITAN John Bunyan The Holy War Spiritual Warfare Angels Demons
“What God says is best, is best, though all the men in the world are against it.”
― John Bunyan, The Pilgrims Progress
John Bunyan is perhaps the most important theological writers and preacher of the 17th-century. In addition to his allegorical masterpiece ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress,’ Bunyan wrote dozens of Puritan works and sermons. He was also well-acquainted with military terminology from his army service; something that would influence his book ‘The Holy War’.
‘The Holy War’ is another Puritan allegory that tells the story of a fictional town and the devil’s attempts to deceive and overthrow the rule of the King. Bunyan describes the process of the fall from God’s grace and incorporates aspects of Christian doctrine.
