1775 BENGAL East India Trading Co South ASIA Hindu British MAP William Bolts
William Bolts was an 18th-century Dutch merchant who worked predominantly for the British East India Company; however, he gained his fame and reputation from his book ‘Consideration on India Affairs’. This book revealed many of the abuses English settlers had to endure by Bengali police and government, the poor work conditions in the factories, and corruption in corporations.
This book however, is not completely negative light. It does describe the abundance of natural resources in southern Asia and promotes the colonial efforts of the English in India. This 1775 first French edition also includes lists of interesting Hindu words relating to politics, commerce, and trade.
