Description
1754 Renneville East India Company Voyages Indonesia Amboyna Massacre Illustrated
René Auguste Constantin de Renneville was a 17th-century French historical writer who published a number of works on French history, the French Inquisition, notable Europe voyages, as well as Christian sonnets and poems. After the ongoing successes of his ‘History of the Bastille’, Renneville began working on ‘Recueil des Voiages’ – a collection of essays and perspectives on a number of voyages that helped establish and progress the East India Trading Company.
This remarkable third volume from Renneville’s work covers expeditions in Malaysia and Indonesia with special attention given to the Amboyna Massacre. In 1623, the Dutch East India Company tortured and executed members of the East India Company and Portuguese traders because of accusations of treason. Renneville describes the event in full as well as providing impressive folding engravings of the fort at Amboyna.
