CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE IMPRINT MILITARY MANUAL, "Manual of Instruction for the Volunteers and Militia of the Confederate States", by William Gilham, Richmond, VA: West & Johnston, 1861, all five fold-out plates present. Original gilt-stamped blue cloth cover. Inscribed "S. A. Sellers / Co. I, 10th Regt V Vols" on front flyleaf. 7 1/2" x 5 1/4".
Good condition, cover with heavy soiling and staining, interior is tight but with staining, foxing, and age toning, primarily at the front and back.
Provenance: From the collection of Maxine and the late Grymes Heneberger, Harrisonburg, VA.
Catalogue Note: Samuel Addison Sellers (1835-1864) enlisted in April 1863 in the 10th Virginia Volunteers Infantry, Company I "Riverton Invincibles" with the rank of 1st Sergeant. He quickly rose to Lieutenant and at the time of his death at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864 had been voted Captain by his men. _x000D_
A total of about 1,350 men served in the 10th Virginia Regiment during the Civil War. As part of the Army of Northern Virginia, the regiment saw action in every major engagement that was fought in Virginia, Maryland (except Sharpsburg) and Pennsylvania.
