HENRY R. ROBINSON (AMERICAN, ACTIVE 1833-1851) MEXICAN WAR HISTORICAL PRINT, hand-colored lithograph on paper, waist-length portrait of a bearded man in uniform with sword, titled "COL. CHARLES A. MAY. / OF THE UNITES STATES DEAGOONS", 1847, "Printed & Published by H. R. Robinson, 142 Nassau Street, N. Y." Housed under glass in a period, possibly original frame. Dated 1847. 25 1/2" x 20" sight, 29 1/2" x 24" OA.
Fair condition with visible water stains and vertical line of toning, no tear of losses, chipping to veneer on frame.
Provenance: Property deaccessioned by the Tudor Place Foundation to benefit the Collections and Conservation funds.
Catalogue Note: We could locate only one other example of this print in the Brown University collection. Charles A. May (1818-1864) was a hero of the Mexican War. His name is included in Verse 3 of the Maryland State Song, "Maryland, My Maryland" as one of the heroes from Maryland who fought in the Mexican War.
Condition
Fair condition with visible water stains and vertical line of toning, no tear of losses, chipping to veneer on frame.
