Antoinette Marie
Marie Antoinette signed document concerning funds for officers
Single page manuscript document signed, 9.5" x 14.5", penned on recto with verso blank. Dated "May 6, 1785", and signed by Marie Antoinette in full signature "Marie Antoinette". Document trimmed along lower half, not affecting text, small old repair to left hand margin, a bit of faint foxing.
A lovely 1785 manuscript document signed by Marie Antoinette addressed to the Treasurer General of the Royale household concerning funds "for maintenance and food for several of our officers during the year". Two months before it was written, the queen had given birth at age 30 to Louise-Charles, Duke of Normandy, a much anticipated second son. A few weeks after this letter was written, Thomas Jefferson and his daughter watched as Marie Antoinette made ceremonial procession to Notre Dame cathedral to give thanks for birth of the young duke.
Desirable and rare, a beautiful important piece.
