Description
Central/Northern Europe, Celtic Iron Age, ca. 2nd century BCE to 1st century CE. An iron spear head with a narrow, conical socket, nicely displayed at a dramatic angle on a custom stand. A narrow, low midrib rises from the socket to the tip of the blade. Iron blades like this one were hammered into shape in the Celtic world. In Celtic, the words "gae, ga, gai, faga, foga, and sleg" were all used for spears, which appear in Celtic sagas like the Ulster Cycle, which focuses on events that supposedly took place around the 1st century CE. Size: 1.95" W x 14" H (5 cm x 35.6 cm); 11.2" H (28.4 cm) on included custom stand.
