Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $100**

Roman Empire, North Africa, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A red-slipped pottery lidded vessel created in North Africa. The Roman Republic established the province of Africa in 146 BCE, following the defeat of Carthage. Eventually, the Roman Empire dominated the entire Mediterranean coast of Africa. The dish or bowl is of a substantive size with a gently raised wall and a flat rim, with a domed lid culminating in a button-like handle. Incredible to find both the lid and bowl! Size: 7-1/4" in diameter x 3-5/8" (18.4 x 9.2 cm).

Provenance: Bates Collection, Clarksville, IA, ex-Joel Malter Collection, acquired before 1990
