Description
A PAIR OF JAPANESE EXPORT PARCEL GILT ENAMELED IMARI GINGER JARS, SATSUMA, KYUSHU, MEIJI (1868-1912)/TAISHO (1912-1926) PERIOD, the onion form finial over lobed, domed lids with flori-form edges, over bulbous, lobed bodies, with underglaze blue and over glaze ironstone enameling, each with two reserves centering phoenix in flight, and two reserves of a shishi lion guarding a garden, ending in phoenix feather motif, the bases marked with a blue underglaze Shimazu Clan Family mon. Height: 14" Diameter: 8"
Condition
Mild surface wear, gilt and enamel rubbing and losses, some firing cracks, and interior soil, but overall in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
