Description
Ca late 19th/early 20th century. A modernist painter, Yasuo Kuniyoshi (1889-1953), known as "Yas", combined in his figures, animals and still life elements of 19th-century folk art, Japanese motif, and modernist European and American art with a whimsical approach of his own. His work had precise draftsmanship, symbolism, decorative imagery, and he took real-world themes and injected them with fantasy and a tone of moodiness. His painted are in the Fukutake Collection in Okayama, Japan. The Tiger is seen in his 1932 painting Japanese Toy Tiger and Old Objects. The Japanese painted wooden mask of a woman is included in his 1940 painting Upside Down Table and Mask (Also in the Fukutake Collection in Japan).
