Details: Antique original oil portrait c. 1880 mounted in a multi-piece ornate gilt wood frame, and depicting a young girl wearing a floral wreath painted on a large ceramic platter.

This lot features an antique original oil portrait painted in the romanticist style, and depicting a young Caucasian girl (or an androgynous young boy) wearing a small floral wreath, and plain yet vibrant clothing. In keeping with the prevailing ideals of romanticism, the painting is primarily comprised of somewhat impressionistic brush strokes informing the subject without concretizing it beyond, young, and beautiful. The painting is on a large circular ceramic platter, which has four holes in the foot rim presumably for hanging. The platter is mounted in a heavily ornamented large fillet moulding set in a gilt frame with a floral motif running throughout.

The painting measures approximately 11.5" round and measures 17.5†x 17.5†with frame.

Condition / Notes: This antique portrait shows very well, displaying vibrant colors and warm highlights. The paint shows some cracking toward the center of the image. The ceramic platter is sturdy and intact showing few signs of wear. The intricate frame is well preserved, with some rubbing and chipping at the corners and some grey bole visible were the gilding has been rubbed through.
