Joe English Watercolor Portrait Girl 19th c: Watercolor portrait of a young girl by Joe English (Belgian, Flemish 1882-1918). Portrait is possibly of artist's daughter, Lieve. Signed and dated 1915 to lower right. Dimensions are: image - 12 3/8" wide x 16" high, overall - 23 3/8" wide x 27" high. All measurements are approximate. Artist Biography: Joe English (Belgian, Flemish 1882-1918). English trained at the Royal Academy on Antwerp from 1901-1908 under the tutelage of Juliaan De Vriendt. He won prizes including the Prix de Rome (1904 and 1907) and the Godecharle Prize (1907) for painting. After his death in 1918 he became the symbolic figurehead of the Flemish Movement. Condition: Scattered areas of foxing on image. Frame has scattered repairs. Otherwise no noted damage.
