Item Details

Description

A late Victorian Gothic Revival gold garnet and diamond pendant. Of openwork design, the cushion-shape garnet and old-cut diamond cluster, with mythical beast, foliate and bead surround, suspending an oval-shape garnet drop. Estimated total diamond weight 0.15ct. French assay marks. Length 5.5cms. Weight 14.7gms.

Condition

Overall condition good. Some surface scratches/wear and discolouration in keeping with general age and wear.

Converted from a brooch, brooch fittings deficient, surmount loop later.

Oval-shape garnet drop appears unoriginal to piece. Possibly an earlier component.

Possible replacement gems.

Diamonds well matched.

Diamonds bright.

Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.

Diamonds with some small dark inclusions under 10x magnification and some small nicks and naturals to the surface.

Garnet drop appears foil-back.

Garnets appear a fairly well matched deep purplish red, with good clarity.

Garnets in good condition with minor abrasions.
