Description
Thomas Fitzsimons Autograph Letter Signed  "Thos Fitzsimons". Four pages of a bifolium, 8" x 9.25", Philadelphia; April 26, 1800. In a letter addressed to Samuel Sitgreaves, Fitzsimons shares news from Europe and various political events. The letter reads, in part:
"I took the liberty of writing you a few days past since when Mr. Cabot upon whose Service, in my appeal in the Case of the ship Curtis, I had much relied in arrived in this country. He is gone on to Boston from New York so that I have had no opportunity of consulting him, but his absence renders your service in this business the more necessary. I must therefore rely upon it and be assured; I will at least be grateful for your attention. Mr. Gore arrived here Yesterday. I have seen him for a short time, but have only learned generally that Mr. King waiting for information which you would be able to give, and as we hear of the Factor being spoke with near England. I trust you would be there soon. A copy of a Note from Mr. King to Lord Grenville is arrived. There had not been time for the former to answer it. Judging from circumstances I conclude much time must elapse before any final determination is taken by that Nation & at last the Nature of it will depend upon the State of Affairs in Europe. It is very evident that there is a marked disrespect to this Country by the Ministerial people omitting all expressions of respect for the Memory of Genl. Washington. Our affairs here as it respects the prevalence of party is far from being pleasant. Mr. A[dams] is serving old friends without getting new ones and it is asserted pretty confidently that the New York Election will be Anti-Federalist. Should that prove to be true the Election of Jefferson will be certain. Now near the close of the Session of Congress when there are several very important objects to be decided on. So many of the late Majority has retired that nothing can be depended on...If Great Britain should attempt carrying things with a high hand it will add not a little to the strength of that party. I take for granted France will at least promise everything. This is not a pleasant detail but it may be useful to you to know it – should a change take place in the Executive Department here it will extend its effects in every direction."

Condition: Usual mail folds, with light toning throughout. Overall very good.
