Description
Agatha Christie Autograph Letter Signed "Agatha Christie." One page, 5.5" x 7", South Devon, U.K.; July 10, [no year]. Addressed to António de Souza-Pinto and written on personal letterhead, the letter from Christie reads in full: "I write to thank you once again for the very beautiful [illegible] ship which I shall treasure greatly. It is a lovely present. I enjoyed my stay in Lisboa very much & only wished it had been longer. I thank you again." Señor de Souza-Pinto was Christie's publisher in Portugal, and it appears from this letter as well as related ones in the lot that the two had a good relationship.
Also included are seven letters between de Souza-Pinto and Christie's daughter, Rosalind Hicks, who maintained the close relationship. After having been invited to meet and stay with the publisher, Mrs. Hicks wrote, dated March 27, 1982, "We shall be very pleased to meet you. I know what a long & happy association your publishing firm has had with my mother, Agatha Christie, & how pleased she was to meet you herself."
Condition:Â Christie's letter has usual mail fold, with two holes punched along the left vertical margin. There are also two small holes at the top corner where a staple was removed. The accompanying letters have varying degrees of toning, creasing, and minor spots of soiling. Overall very fine.
