Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Rio Magdalena region, ca. 600 to 1500 CE. A set of three hand-built seated pottery figures from the Magdalena River region of Colombia. A beige-hued figure sits upon spread legs and a flat base, has long curved arms, a stylized navel, perky breasts, and flat shoulders; the face has characteristically-absent features, though a broad head, bulbous nose, and a circular mouth are visible. A second figure has long legs crossed in front of it, with attenuated arms and two nubbin-shaped stabilization protrusions under its posterior; the head is enormous in comparison to the rest of the body, with coffee-bean-shaped eyes and a rounded forehead. Last is a tall seated figure with curved limbs, a slender waist, and rounded shoulders; the visage displays slit-shaped eyes, large ears and nose, and a flat forehead with angular sides. Two figures have a brown surface coloration, the third being buff, and all are great examples from this ancient Colombian culture! Size of largest (circular-eared figure): 4.1" H (10.4 cm).
