Egypt, Roman-Egyptian period, ca. 1st century CE. A pair of redware pottery oil lamps, both mold-made and both of a general form with a round central discus inside a raised ring and a long spout. Size: 4.6" L x 3" W x 1.4" H (11.7 cm x 7.6 cm x 3.6 cm)
The smaller of the two has a motif between disc and spout that looks like a scarab with wings spread. It has a rare (in oil lamps) asymmetric design, with a flared edge on one side of the discus acting as a handle, and sits on a flat, round base. The larger of the two has a design of radiating, narrow lines flowing outward from the rim on the upper side only. The underside is undecorated aside from an incised ring around its base and an incised maker's mark that looks like a trident.

Condition
Smaller lamp is intact; the larger has a crack on the underside that has been stabilized. The larger also has a red accession number painted on the underside of the spout. Both have scorch marks from use.
