John Steinbeck's, "The Forgotten Village", with a Signed & Autographed Mailing Card
The Forgotten Village by John Steinbeck, NY, Viking, 1941, first edition, first printing, accompanied by his charming signed and autographed note on his personal Sag Harbor Card Stock. Dated "Aug 5, 1958", and signed by John Steinbeck in full signature "John Steinbeck". The book is in near fine condition in oatmeal cloth with green embossing to front and spine titles, in a very good lightly chipped dust jacket.
This premise of the book is a story of life in a Mexican village, and includes 136 b&w photos from the film of the same name by Rosa Harvan Kline and Alexander Hackensmid. Both the film story and script were written by Steinbeck whose text accompanies each photo, the film was directed by Herbert Kline, Hackensmid was co-director and director of photography, the film was narrated by Burgess Meredith, Goldstone & Payne.
Accompanied by the lovely autographed note to Miss Driscoll:
"Dear Miss Driscoll:
If you have permission/ from the A.M.A. Journal to reprint my pieces called "Dedication", you may surely have mine.
Yours sincerely.
John Steinbeck"
Although we were not able to locate the Steinbeck's piece referred to in his note, we were able to locate that "Dedication" was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association on July 12, 1958.
