A Near Eastern bronze crescent axe head, late 3rd Millennium BC, with wide, curved cutting edge and three rounded rear projections, the central one wedge-shaped to fit into the wooden shaft. 6 3/4 in (17.1 cm). A scarcer axe type which is well-preserved and nicely patinated. Cf. Moorey, Catalogue of Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum. (Oxford 1971), p. 56, nos. 22-23 for the type.
