An antique bamboo and Yixing opium pipe that is a hand crafted piece of folk art.; The pipe is made from a piece of bamboo and has a dark stained color. The bowl of the pipe is made from Yixing clay with a ribbed decorative edge. It has a metal mount which inserts to a black lacquered wood and brass metal mount on the end of the bamboo pipe. The metal mount has a decorative wood circle inset at the end. The mouth piece of the pipe is a black lacquered wood.; There is a carved set of characters below the bowl on the lacquered wood mount. This was to identify its ownership.; MEASUREMENTS; Main pipe is 3 ¼” (8.3 cm) tall x 15 ¾” (40.0 cm) long. Bowl is 3” (7.6 cm) diameter x 2” (5.1 cm) tall. Weighs 9.4 oz (265 g); CONDITION; There is wear on the lacquer, and a few chips at the bottom edge of the mouth piece. There is also short crack and a chip on the mouth piece. The lacquer on the bowl mount. The Yixing bowl has tape residue on the top surface. Some of the residue that has coated the bottom of the bowl has worn off leaving a patchy surface. The fabric tape that holds the bowl in the mount has worn off and so the bowl is very unsteady in the pipe.; An antique pipe to add to a collection or an unusual eclectic antique to give age and substance to a décor.
