Details: This lot contains a vintage hand carved cuckoo clock as shown in the corresponding images. This particular cuckoo clock is built in the hunting tradition with a carving of a deer and two rifles on the top front. The clock works was made in Germany with a "Thorens" movement from Switzerland. Approx. height is 13"; not including the pendulum and has one bird that emerges from one door and a pair of dancers that emerge from another door.
"It is unknown who invented the cuckoo clock and where the first one was made. It is thought that much of its development and evolution was made in the Black Forest area in southwestern Germany (State of Baden-Württemberg), the region where the cuckoo clock was popularized. The cuckoo clocks were exported to the rest of the world from the mid 1850s on. Today, the cuckoo clock is one of the favourite souvenirs of travelers in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. It has become a cultural icon of Germany."
