Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, ca. 4000 to 2000 BCE. A charming pendant, hand-carved from shell, in the form of a standing human figure with a classically Valdivian coiffure, a simple face, and clearly carved hands and feet. The shell ranges from a creamy grey color to a brilliant red/orange. It has been drilled through vertically for suspension. Size: 1.2" W x 1.95" H (3 cm x 5 cm); 2.55" H (6.5 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
