A rare Pende Mbangu or Bewitched Mask from the Pende peoples, DRC / Congo, central Africa.According to resources, The mbangu mask depicts someone that is bewitched, diseased or handicapped due to their moral corruption (some sources point to bewitchment caused by a jealous rival inflicting disease). The White of the mask showing the spirit of deceased ancestors, who bring hope and cures for Illness, while the black and dark half show the living spirit, lost to death and illness. The mask shows the duality of the world of the living and the spirit world, existing side by side.The mask itself measures 13 x 7 inches, we will also include a professional custom display stand.
