Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th to early 5th century CE. A sizeable and nearly transparent free-blown vessel comprised of pale aqua blue glass. The jar has a concave base with a rough pontil scar, a globular body, a rounded shoulder, a short tubular neck, a deep interior cavity, and a tall collared rim which is slightly off-kilter due to the forming and cooling process. Aquamarine hued rigaree trails zigzag around the body's exterior walls. Stunning passages of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence grace the vessel with even more beauty! Size: 2.875" in diameter x 3.375" H (7.3 cm x 8.6 cm)

Condition
Gaps in rigaree do not appear to be due to losses; this is how the decoration was created originally. Nice broken pontil mark and inventory label on base. Surface with normal areas of encrustation and rainbow iridescence. Generally excellent.
