Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th to late 6th century CE. A thick, buff ceramic amphora, with a bullet-like shape, small, thick, ring/loop handles on the edges of the shoulder, and a relatively wide mouth. It tapers to a conical base and has deeply incised ridges around its shoulder and base. Amphorae of this type are found around the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea; they have also been found in Carthage, Gaul, and Britain. Size: 10.75" W x 21" H (27.3 cm x 53.3 cm); 22.25" H (56.5 cm) on included custom stand.
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
