Description
Rare Doulton-fired R.W. Martin signed bowl in cobalt and buff.
Undoubtably produced during his short freelance tenure with Doulton Lambeth, this exceedingly rare early Robert Wallace Martin open salt is replete with the arts-and-crafts sensibilities famed in later Martin Brothers creations- deeply incised and sprigged "eyes" peering out organically in buff and pale green, bordered top and bottom by deep, cobalt glazed molding. The interior is finished off in a light cobalt slip. Salt glazed. Signed in stylus long-hand by the artist on the bottom, along with the number 25; includes a hallmarked sterling silver spoon.
