Description
1815 Charleston Lafar Fisher Slave Hire copper alloy badge, Number 125. Octagonal shaped having four very long sides and four extremely short sides with a hole at the top for suspension. Front marked "CHARLESTON" in a lunate punch at the top, "No." in a square punch, and "125" in individual number punches, "FISHER" in a rectangular punch, and 1815" in a rectangular punch at the bottom. Hallmarked "LAFAR" in a rectangular punch on the back. 44 mm x 45 mm (1.73" x 1.77"). Provenance: Ray Davenport. Estate of Jim Maconkey, Landrum, SC. Condition
Appearance is Fine to Very Fine in places. Dark brown in color, slightly dished, believed to add additional strength to the badge when worn.
