Two (2) Single Fore-Edge Painted Books, including Henry Venn, William Falconer. 1st item: The Complete Duty of Man: Or a System of Doctrinal & Practical Christianity by Henry Venn, A.M., 1812. Printed for J. Ogle, M. Ogle, Glasgow, R. Ogle and T. Hamilton, London. Octavo, 481 gilt edged pages with a watercolor single fore-edge painting of a bustling market square before the Clock Tower in St. Albans, England, engraved vignette to title page and back advertisement, rebound in red leather with gilt borders to covers and gilt lettering to spine, five raised hubs, marbled paper end papers. Ink inscription dated March 31, 1824, to front end paper, additional pencil inscriptions, including the identification of the location of the fore-edge painting, back end paper. 8 1/2" H x 5 1/2" W x 1 3/8" D. Note: This book was included on a receipt from J.N. Bartfield, New York, NY, dated August 24, 1983. 2nd item: The Shipwreck, A Poem, A New Edition, by William Falconer, 1818. Printed by John McCreery, London. 12mo, 167 gilt edged pages with a watercolor single fore-edge painting of a shipwreck, fold out copper plate engraved frontispiece of a ship diagram, rebound in green Morocco leather with gilt borders to covers and gilt lettering to spine, ex libris bookplate, inside of front cover. 6 3/8" H x 4" W x 3/4" D.
