Â
Sixty Years of Living Architecture: The Work Of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Municipal Art Patrons and Art Commission of Los Angeles, 1954. 8.5" x 8.5." Soft wraps with a stapled binding. Signed, dated and inscribed by Frank Lloyd Wright to the lower right corner of the front cover. "To James Sweeney - our curator and friend/ F. Â
Inscribed exhibition catalog for a retrospective of Wright's "Organic Architecture", originally shown in Florence, Italy in 1951. (A brief preview ran in Philadelphia in that year; Los Angeles later sponsored and hosted the first official showing in America, in a pavilion built, for the exhibit, adjacent to Wright's 1913 Barnsdall House, depicted on the upper wrap). Inscribed in ink to the front wrap: "To James Sweeney - our curator and friend/ F. Lloyd/ 54." Sweeney was Director of the Guggenheim museum from 1952-1960, and oversaw construction of the iconic Wright designed museum building, of which he was apparently not a fan. Illustrated throughout with plans, drawings, and black-and-white photos of buildings and interiors. A lovely copy.
