East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A fine hand-built pottery kneeling figure sculpted in the classic Han style. The figure has a thin, flat base with twin perforated projections suggestive of bent knees beneath a flowing courtier robe; remains of the original black and white surface pigment are still visible. Though only half as tall as typical Han Dynasty figural depictions, this is a singular figure and not one half of a larger model. Size: 6.7" H (17 cm).
