Description
Presenting a 1830's camel colored felted wool long cloak, Measuring from back neck line to bottom 48-1/2" long, hood is 11" deep, height of hood 18", bottom of cloak has a diameter of 100-1/2". Inner stand up high collar measures 5" tall. Hood has a draw string.
The back of hood reminds me of a Shaker cloak they way it is gathered.
Recently de-accessioned from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
Circa 1830's and is guaranteed to be old and authentic.
CONDITION: In fair/good condition. Silk hood lining is a tan silk/satin and only is a partial lining, original with hood lining torn around neck line. Seams have opened up in hood lining. Cloak has one large hoop and loop closures at neck line. Silk ribbon neck ties have minor damage. There is a partial polished tan cotton lining 5-1/4" wide in cape on either side of opening. The wool cloak is in sturdy condition with very few scattered small holes. Some scattered discolorations at bottom of cloak as seen in photos. I believe this cloak had opening at side for the arms that have been sewn closed over the decades. One small repair patch in front.
Would make a addition to one's collection and very wearable.
