Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A beautiful necklace displaying a dark-gray pottery spindle whorl as the central element. The spindle whorl is incised with abstract geometric motifs and accentuated with white pigmentation, perforated through the center, and suspended from a woven, gold-filled wire. This ensemble was then suspended from a slender gold-filled metal chain complete with a lobster clasp. Designed in modern times, this wearable necklace exemplifies the unity between ancient art and modern fashion!
