Description
A lovely marble portrait of Aristotle, c. 15th - 17th Century, resembling bronze plaquettes of the late 15th century. The great philosopher's bust faces to right, wearing cap and robes, in fine style for the period with detailed features. Around the portrait is the Latin inscription ARTE VIVIT HOMO, in well-cut letters, below his name in Greek API?TOTE?H?. 14 1/2 x 10 3/4 in (36.8 x 27.3 cm). A great display piece with suspension hole just above the head.
