Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. An abstract standing anthropomorphic figure, hand-carved and string-cut from a mottled light-green diorite with dark-green inclusions. The figure has a spade-shaped head with drilled eyes and a bulbous nose, and a rounded body with delineated arms, legs, and waist. Ancient artisans of this region of Mexico were especially proficient at portraying the human body in uncomplicated yet articulate forms by mastering the string-cutting technique. While the Mezcala people were adept at creating proto-typical minimalist works of art, they certainly do not lack in character. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.375" W x 3.25" H (3.5 cm x 8.3 cm); 3.55" H (9 cm) on included custom stand.
