First half 19th century, 233 x 146 cm, North West Anatolia, Balikesir region

This red-ground Yüncü kilim featuring a deep blue field design of three geometric, stylised trees and a narrow border echoing the shapes of the trees is a visual masterpiece. The reduction to two primary colours, red and blue, results in a strong focus on the bold design, which is enlivened by embroidered white outlines and several white design details. The horizontal branches ending in double hooks combine with the ground to form a second reciprocal design layer of wide undulating bands with serrated outlines. An almost identical kilim has been published by Eskenazi. – Good condition.
