Sidney Gross (1921-1969): Two Oil on Masonite "Abstractions" each signed "Gross" one dated "59". Light age related wear. Height 20 inches (50.8cm.) X width 15 3/4 inches (40 cm.), one the reverse dimensions. Provenance: Purchased from the Estate of Sidney Gross through Frank Rehn Galleries, New York circa 1972; consigned to Eddie's Auction by a well known Manhattan Photographic Artist from her personal collection. NOTE: Sidney Gross (1921-1969), Originally working in semi-abstract landscapes of New York City, by the mid 1950s, he was painting in Abstract Expressionism and finding clients at a time when other Abstract Expressionist artists were forced to band together to exhibit. Around 1960, his UFO and Probe Series began to include controlled abstractions against hard edge geometric fields of colors at his premature death.
