Description
French, 17th century; carved walnut armchair with acanthus carved arms; rising on turned legs with an "H" stretcher and paw feet; upholstered in a contemporary tapestry with a framed fragment of the original needlework.. Approx. w. 25", h. 41.5", d. 22.5". Provenance: Purchased in 1936 at a chateau auction conducted by La Salle Drouot, for the Private Collection of Count Franciszek Xawery Pininski. Count Pininski, a Polish Air Attache in Paris, fled with his family in June, 1940. This piece and others spent the war being used by the Axis military until they were saved by friends of the family and stored until 1956, when Countess Pininska returned to Paris to bring the antiques to Canada.

Damage to legs and crest; inactive insect activity.
