(Thought Factory, 1977) An extremely rare original painting of the classic Marvel Comics’ "Thor". Painted by Joe Garnett and signed with his last name, the artwork features a more realistic depiction of the character at top, and a more traditional comic-panel style representation at the bottom. This original artwork was created and used in a popular series of collectible posters that were marketed by a partnership between Thought Factory and Bill Wallen, with this poster coming from Wallen's personal collection. The artwork is composed of primarily airbrush, with some ink and acrylic. Measuring 37.5"x25" on sturdy art board, the original painting is in very good condition with some minor expected wear from the production process, including a couple of small scuffs in the background color and some minor wear around the border. The comic-panel area at the bottom is a hand-colored reproduction of panels from issues 252 and 253 of The Mighty Thor, which has been trimmed and applied over the larger artwork. This panel area is lifting slightly from the board backing. The Thought Factory superhero posters were very popular when they debuted in 1977, with surviving examples becoming difficult to find. This is the first time the original artwork for these exceptional posters has ever been offered for public sale.
