Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador (Carchi) region, Capuli Complex, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A set of hand-built pottery vessels from the Narino Highlands. First is a small olla with a flat base, a globular body with an protruding midsection, and a small rim. Second is a large chalice with a concave footed base, wide walls, a rounded rim, and a shallow basin. Both vessels are decorated with signature Narino black-on-red negative resist geometric motifs, with the chalice boasting bands of spotted and swirled details on the foot. Size of largest (chalice): 5.25" W x 3.5" H (13.3 cm x 8.9 cm).

Condition
Olla has small chip to rim and a partial hairline fissure along the rim. Both vessels have surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small nicks and chips to bodies, bases, and rims, and fading to red and black pigmentation. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
