Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A gorgeous and wearable necklace composed of 16 hand-carved carnelian beads, 4 small glass beads, and dozens of discoid and seed beads made from faience. The periwinkle, vermilion, pearl, and cobalt hues of the beads imbue this necklace with an elegant presentation, and the terminals meet via a modern gold-filled barrel clasp. A striking accessory for any occasion! Size (necklace): 18.75" L (47.6 cm); size (largest bead): 0.375" W (1 cm).

Condition
Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Beads are ancient while string and gold-filled components are modern. Some beads have minor abrasions, small nicks, and some fading to original coloration, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
