Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A lovely and sizable vessel known as a modiolus (a cup/scoop used for measuring large quantities of grain), free-blown from semi-translucent, golden-yellow glass. The vessel is defined by a ringed foot and smooth pontil scar, a cylindrical body which gradually widens to form a plateaued shoulder, a thick rim, and an applied trail handle joining body to shoulder. The opulent hue of the vessel is elegantly complemented by fiery areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence. Size: 5.5" W x 3.625" H (14 cm x 9.2 cm).

Condition
Repaired from multiple pieces with several areas of restoration and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to rim, body, handle, and base, with light weathering film, and some minor micro-bubbling within glass matrix. Light earthen deposits as well as fabulous silver and rainbow iridescence throughout.
